The Revolution for Nucleic Acid Gel Documentation

The FastGene® FAS-Digi PRO is our newest imaging system for the detection of DNA and RNA in agarose gels. This gel doc system is a further development of our very successful FAS-Digi system. The FAS-Digi PRO is equiped with a light-sensitive 24 MPixel camera, it is controlled completely by our newly developed imaging software. With the live view mode, all changes of the camera, the exposure time, the lens aperture, and a digital zoom are displayed in real-time. The FAS-Digi PRO is a fully networkable gel doc system, which allows a simple transfer of images when connected to a PC.  

Blue/Green LED Light for a Safe Detection of DNA and RNA

The FastGene® FAS-Digi PRO is composed of a strong transilluminator equipped with the unique Blue/Green LED technology. These LEDs emit light at a wavelength of 470 nm – 520 nm without damaging nucleic acids (Figure 1). The Blue/Green LED light enables the detection of all common green dyes, such as Midori Green or SYBRTM Green, yellow dyes e.g. SYBRTM Safe and red dyes, e.g. ethidium bromide or GelRedTM. Absorbance Spectra of MIDORI Green and Ethidium bromide Figure 1:  Absorbance spectra of Ethidium bromide (red), Midori Green Advance (green) and  Midori Green Direct (light green). The Blue/Green LED light emit light at a wavelength of 470 – 520 nm, enabling the detection of all common green and red DNA dyes.   The imaging area of the transilluminator has a size of 26 x 21 cm, which allows the imaging of multiple agarose gels of various size. Because of the large illumination area and the possibility to remove the hood of the Fas-Digi PRO, it is very easy to excise DNA bands (Figure 2). The combination of our unique Blue/Green LED excitation technology with the high-end components deliver the best results with an easy to use gel doc system. Figure 2: The hood of the FAS-Digi PRO can be easily removed. This allows a very easy excision of DNA bands. This imaging platform is built around the new FastGene Blue/Green LED XL transilluminatorwhich utilizes the superior technology of Blue/Green LED's. The aquamarine-colour illumination is designed for exciting common fluorescence DNA dyes such as EtBr and SYBR Green. You can always expect at least equivalent results as compared to UV transilluminators, but without the risk of damaging DNA or harming your skin and eyes. This is because the lower energy photons from these LEDs, unlike UV light, will not cross-link DNA (which reduces its subcloning efficiency). The system is designed to produce stronger signals and lower background by illuminating from opposite sides (dual LED matrices) as opposed to directly shining light from below like, most other gel illuminators. The FAS-Digi PRO is developed for use with either red dyes such as ethidium bromide (EtBr) or next generation non-carcinogenic, non-toxic dyes like the Midori Green family of safe dyes. LEDs are safer and more efficient than traditional UV bulbs making the FAS-Digi PRO system very compact and extraordinarily durable.
