When used in conjunction with Bis-Tris systems, such as FastGene PAGE gels, this buffer ensures consistent, reproducible results, particularly when separating medium-to-large proteins where precise band definition is critical.

The technical advantage of the MOPS (3-(N-morpholino)propanesulfonic acid) system lies in its ability to maintain a more neutral pH during electrophoresis compared to traditional Tris-Glycine buffers. This reduced alkalinity significantly diminishes protein hydrolysis and polyacrylamide matrix degradation during the run. The result is exceptionally sharp band resolution and improved protein stability, allowing for high-intensity, fast electrophoresis runs (typically 30 minutes at 200V) without compromising the integrity of sensitive samples.
